Os aposentados Muriel, Douglas, Evelyn, Graham e mais três amigos decidem curtir a aposentadoria em lugar diferente e o destino é a Índia. Encantados com o exotismo do local e com imagens do recém restaurado Hotel Marigold, a trupe parte para lá sem pestanejar e são recebidos pelo jovem sonhador Sonny. O único detalhe é que nada era muito bem como parecia ser, mas as experiências que eles irão viver mudarão para sempre o futuro de todos.
